How many times have you heard “is it Friday yet,” followed by a slight eye roll. Almost there, and it’s only Tuesday! But when it’s actually Friday, it’s positioned as the only day where “just one more thing” somehow multiplies into mass. Your calendar is quietly whispering time to wrap it up, while your brain is already in weekend mode loading at seven and a half percent.

If this sounds familiar, that’s the Friday feeling. Whether you’re employed, a founder or doing a bit of both, finding your flow is an art. Because when the weekend rolls around, disconnecting isn’t a reward, it’s a leadership skill. You’ve made you’re weekly moves, now it’s time to recharge, energize, and experience things that contribute to your smile.

But logging off as a Founder Vs. an Employee looks very different come Friday!

If you’re employed, Friday is when you try to disembark without anyone chasing with “wait, where is the report?” Your goals are straightforward, or so they seem: close loops, send quick update, and leave the office before a new meeting gets invented.

If you’re a founder, Friday is just like any other day where you’re thinking about your action item list. Since you’re the captain, you’re responsible on the daily and you continue to strategize how we should ship, raise funds, edit the homepage. With this in mind you’re forced to log off, and master the leadership skill of disconnecting. Because finding balance is a system that even a founder must attend to. Real successful leadership means that you designed a week that doesn’t require the weekend rescue mission. Giving you a real opportunity to disconnect, and give way for new ideas and productivity.

So whether you’re a founder or employed, the happy medium involves ending the week clean. Meaning, don’t leave your team or yourself in suspense, transparency drives success. Although, founder and employee come with different titles, both need their minds to internalize the message that “they’re safe to stop for now” and return on their designated day back. Take the time to drive strong leadership by setting boundaries, such as days off! You can love what you do and still enjoy a stroll through the botanical garden, or lounge beachside while watching the waves roll with their natural rhythm.
